A student's death at the Federal University, Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) has sparked controversy, with the university administration and the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities (SSANU) trading blame.
The Vice Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, attributed the student's death, who was asthmatic, to the closure of the institution's clinic due to the ongoing strike by SSANU members. He accused SSANU of feeding misinformation to its national leadership, leading to the closure of the university and subsequent tragic incident.

In response, the SSANU chairman at FUOYE, Oluwaseun Faleye, defended the union's decision to strike, stating that the university had been duly notified of the seven-day warning strike.
