TETFund-Sponsored Generative AI Training Equips NWU Kano Staff with Innovative Digital Skills
Northwest University Kano (NWU Kano) has commenced a two-day intensive training on Innovative Artificial Intelligence (AI) under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund)–sponsored 2023/2025 Merged Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC) Intervention, aimed at strengthening staff capacity in the application of emerging digital technologies within the university system.
The training, organised in collaboration with the Directorate of Staff Training and Development of the University, is being conducted by Maikanti Consultancy and Management Services and focuses on Generative Artificial Intelligence for University Staff. It officially commenced on Monday, 19th January 2026, at the Senate Chamber of the University’s Main Campus, with a remarkable turnout of selected academic and non-academic staff.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the AI Committee, Professor Aisha Garba Habib, warmly welcomed participants and briefly outlined the objectives of the programme. She explained that the training was designed to expose university staff to contemporary AI tools and innovations capable of enhancing teaching, research, administration, and service delivery in line with global best practices.
Delivering her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, urged participants to fully engage with the sessions in order to maximise the benefits of the training. She emphasized that Artificial Intelligence has become an indispensable component of modern higher education and administration, and encouraged staff to embrace AI-driven solutions to improve productivity, efficiency, and institutional competitiveness.
Similarly, the Pro-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, His Excellency Professor Hafiz Abubakar, MFR, commended TETFund for the intervention and applauded the organisers for initiating the timely training. He drew the attention of participants to the fact that AI has come to stay, stressing the need for university staff to be AI-compliant in order to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving digital world.
The training features three comprehensive lecture sessions, all delivered by Dr. Ali Baba Dauda, a Consultant with Maikanti Consultancy and Management Services. The sessions were highly interactive and engaging, as participants were exposed to practical insights on generative AI tools, applications, and ethical considerations in the university environment.
Notably, the programme witnessed the active participation of all principal officers of the University highlighting the institution’s collective commitment to digital transformation and capacity building.
The training is expected to significantly enhance the AI literacy of staff and contribute to the effective integration of innovative technologies into the academic and administrative operations of Northwest University Kano.
