UNILORIN announces plans for innovation hubs

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has revealed the institution’s strategic plan that would see to the establishment of innovation hubs in collaboration with a Swedish company and Lotus Bank, saying  that the move is aimed at fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among members of the University community.

Prof. Egbewole stated this penultimate Thursday (November 30, 2023) while receiving the leadership of the Kwara State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) in his office.

 

The Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law, who was happy with the visit, emphasised the importance of bridging the gap between the academia and the industry.

 The Vice Chancellor assured KWACCIMA that the University is committed to playing an active role in the KWACCIMA Trade Fair, which held last week.

 

He explained that as part of its participation in the trade fair, the University planned to showcase and would market its innovative patents that highlight the institution’s dedication to research and development.

Prof. Egbewole, who was joined by the Principal Officers of the University to receive the KWACCIMA’s delegation, expressed optimism with the positive impact this collaboration would have on both the University and the business community in Kwara State.

The Vice Chancellor further highlighted the University’s ongoing efforts at strengthening its ties with industries in Kwara State, emphasising the importance of collaborative initiatives in driving economic growth and development in the region.

 

As part of efforts to boost economic activities on campus, the Vice Chancellor informed his guests that the Managing Director of Orient Energy Resources recently visited the University in preparation for the commencement of mechanised farming activities on the campus

Earlier, the President of KWACCIMA, Chief (Mrs) Ronke Adeyemi, extended an offer of free mentorship to students of the University of Ilorin.

 

 She emphasised that KWACCIMA sees itself as the voice of the business community and is keen on supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs through mentorship programmes.
