The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has expressed concern over the recent hike in electricity tariffs imposed by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The increase has resulted in the institution's monthly electricity bill skyrocketing from N70 million to N230 million, a situation described as unsustainable.

The sudden surge has seriously affected the university's budget, prompting the administration to intensify negotiations for alternative power supply solutions. New buildings under construction will include provisions for alternative power sources, and strategies are being developed to ensure reliable alternative power options for all faculties and units.
