University of Ibadan Partners with ICPC to Inaugurate Reconstituted Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit
The University of Ibadan (UI) has formally inaugurated and inducted the members of its reconstituted Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU), reinforcing the institution's commitment to ethical standards, accountability, and institutional integrity.
The ceremony, conducted in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), was attended by university management, stakeholders, and high-ranking commission officials.

In his opening address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor K.O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, underscored that UI’s strength is rooted in its committee system. He noted that while the university is a global leader in academic prowess, true greatness is sustained through transparency.
"The inauguration of the newly constituted ACTU is vital to the University," Professor Adebowale stated. "It acknowledges that excellence must be matched by a steadfast commitment to accountability."
Mr. Oscar Ndukwe, leading the ICPC delegation, clarified that ACTU is designed as an internal preventive mechanism rather than a tool for "witch-hunting" staff. He emphasized that the unit serves as a collaborative platform to identify corruption risks and strengthen administrative processes without acting as a rival to university management.

A goodwill message from the ICPC Chairman commended Nigeria’s premier university for setting a moral template for other higher institutions. The commission urged the new members to maintain high professional standards in their mandate to investigate, educate, and reform internal systems.
The 10-member unit, chaired by Professor J. O. Ajiboye of the Faculty of Education, was officially inducted and provided with operational guidelines. In his acceptance speech, Professor Ajiboye pledged that the committee would work diligently to uphold the confidence reposed in them by the university management.
