In a commendable move to ease the financial burden on students, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Professor Carol Arinze Umobi, has announced significant reductions in ICT fees and charges. This decision follows the recommendations of the university's ICT Committee, which identified areas for financial relief.
As part of the fee reduction, a total of N9,500 has been slashed, with key changes including the abolition of certain charges. Notably, students will now only incur a single fee for all ICT services. The previous App fee of N2,000 and the Duplicate Orientation fee of N3,500 have been removed entirely. Additionally, the general studies publications fee has been reduced from N12,000 to N8,000, and there will be a 50% reduction on all transcript fees.
The ICT Committee also emphasized the importance of localizing transcript processing within the university, recommending that the platform be managed by university staff. This recommendation aligns with the university's commitment to enhancing student services and ensuring efficient processing of academic records.
In her address, Professor Umobi expressed her belief that these cuts will significantly benefit students and their families, particularly in light of the current economic challenges. "No measure is too small to alleviate the hardship currently being faced by our students," she stated. The Acting Vice Chancellor encouraged students to take advantage of the resources available to them for academic success.
With this decisive action, Professor Umobi has demonstrated her commitment to making education more accessible and affordable for the youth. She reaffirmed the university's dedication to supporting its students and promised ongoing efforts to improve their academic experience.
