The initiative, introduced at the Bunker Hub in Uyo, aims to equip students with skills for creating greener campuses and managing waste effectively.

Well of Science Limited, an innovative start-up dedicated to sustainability, has officially launched its Green Club for Schools project aimed at enhancing environmental awareness among students. The launch event took place at the Bunker Hub in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, and was attended by a diverse group of stakeholders, including academic leaders, students, private sector representatives, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and media personnel.

The Green Club for Schools initiative, currently in its pilot phase, focuses on educational institutions in Akwa Ibom and Rivers States. The project is designed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills to foster greener campuses and communities. Key objectives include promoting effective waste management and building climate change resilience among youth.

Etia Nwaenang, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Well of Science, highlighted the project's vision during her speech: “Empowering the next generation is crucial for creating a sustainable future. This initiative will enable students to actively participate in promoting environmental sustainability within their communities.”

In his keynote address, Celestine Ntuen, Vice-Chancellor of Ritman University, emphasized the pivotal role of youth in environmental stewardship: “Youths are integral to achieving a sustainable environment. By shifting our mindset, we can ensure a greener future for both current and future generations.”

The event underscored the critical need for student involvement in climate action and the potential opportunities within the green economy. Ubong Inyang, Chief Operating Officer and co-founder of Well of Science, detailed the program’s goals, including the Waste-to-Tree campaign. This initiative will allow students to exchange collected plastic bottles for tree planting activities on their campuses.

Participating schools will receive support to transform their environmental passion into practical enterprises, potentially generating new jobs within the green sector.
