AKSU VC Charges Alumni to Be Good Ambassadors
Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nse U. Essien has urged alumni to be exemplary ambassadors of the institution, contributing to its development and progress.
Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nse U. Essien has urged alumni to be exemplary ambassadors of the institution, contributing to its development and progress.
At a meeting, Prof. Essien emphasized the importance of giving back to the university, leveraging connections to bring infrastructure and growth-oriented contributions. He highlighted AKSU's recent ranking as Nigeria's 17th best university by Times Higher Education.
Prof. Essien acknowledged past issues leading to a two-year suspension of alumni activities but promised elections for a new executive within two months.
He outlined major achievements under his administration, including:
- Full accreditation for all 43 programs
- Professional accreditations from ICAN, COREN, and TRCN
- Establishment of postgraduate programs, Centre for Continuing Education, and Top-up program
- Joint University Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) program
- Significant infrastructural developments, such as purpose-built facilities, hostels, research laboratories, and auditorium
Starting January 2025, key faculties will move to the permanent site, making way for new faculties like Environmental Sciences, Medicine, and Law.
The meeting resolved to conduct e-voting elections for a new alumni executive and inaugurated an electoral body to oversee the process.
