Caritas Nigeria and ADRAP Complete 5-Day Auxiliary Social Work Training Across Abia, Enugu, and Imo

Caritas Nigeria, in partnership with ADRAP, held a 5-day Auxiliary Social Work training from August 26-30, 2024, in Abia, Enugu, and Imo states. The training, aimed at OVC case managers, covered social work, disease surveillance, and HIV treatment. Participants, including representatives from various ministries and partner institutions, developed action plans for managing disease outbreaks.

At the 5-day Auxiliary Social Work training

Caritas Nigeria, in collaboration with the Africa Disease Prevention and Research Development Initiative (ADRAP), recently conducted a 5-day Auxiliary Social Work training in Abia, Enugu, and Imo states from August 26 to 30, 2024. The training aimed to enhance the skills of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) case managers, focusing on social work practices, key OVC concepts, and disease surveillance.

Participants were trained on community-based surveillance principles, ethical social work practices, and HIV treatment issues. They engaged in practical group discussions to address challenges in disease outbreak management and developed detailed action plans for handling unreported outbreaks.

The training involved OVC case managers, desk officers, and representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs and Social Development. Collaborators included the University of Nigeria Nsukka's Department of Social Work, the Federal School of Social Work in Enugu, and the Twinning for Health Support Initiative.

At the conclusion of the training, 90 OVC case managers, including 10 from Ebonyi State, were certified as Auxiliary Social Workers, enhancing their capacity to support Disease Surveillance and Notification Officers in managing disease outbreaks.
