The event will also serve as the official dedication of the new MCE Departmental Apartment, with Rev. Dr. S.I. Oduenyi presiding over the ceremony. Renowned human resource and development expert Mr. Godson Igwedinmah is set to be the guest speaker. The seminar will be hosted by the Head of the Department, Associate Professor Samuel Nneji, alongside the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. T.M. Owoh. The Vice-Chancellor of ESUT, Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, will serve as the Chief Host.
In an interview, Associate Professor Nneji highlighted that the seminar aligns with the university's vision of promoting excellence and human capital development. He noted that the timing of the seminar is significant, as it aims to prepare staff for the new academic session.
"This seminar is in furtherance of the vision of Enugu State University of Science and Technology to be a premier university in Africa in capacity development, promoting services to society through quality teaching, research, and community service," said Prof. Nneji. "For ESUT to produce quality manpower that utilizes technology for societal service, our staff must be empowered through seminars like this to render quality services to all."
He emphasized the need for staff to develop essential non-technical or psychosocial skills, commonly referred to as soft skills, to excel in modern-day service delivery, in line with the needs of 21st-century university education. "The seminar is most appropriate now because we need to reposition our staff for the new academic session, which kicks off on October 14, 2024," he added.
This initiative follows a two-day capacity-building training workshop conducted by ESUT management on September 24 and 25, aimed at enhancing productivity, work ethics, and probity among the university's frontline staff. As the university gears up for the new session, the upcoming seminar promises to be an important step in fostering a culture of continuous professional development and quality service delivery within the institution.
