The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, recently embarked on a significant initiative to empower its staff with the knowledge and skills to excel in the realm of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This noble endeavor came to fruition through a partnership between the institution's ICT unit and a global networking expert, Cisco Networking Academy. Together, they joined forces to train over 220 senior staff members of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, with a focus on ICT.

The Federal Polytechnic, Oko, recently embarked on a significant initiative to empower its staff with the knowledge and skills to excel in the realm of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This noble endeavor came to fruition through a partnership between the institution's ICT unit and a global networking expert, Cisco Networking Academy. Together, they joined forces to train over 220 senior staff members of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, with a focus on ICT.

The training sessions, which were organized in batches at the institution's state-of-the-art ICT Academy Complex, were a testament to the commitment of the institution's Governing Council and management. The first batch of trainees included 107 Deputy Registrars (DR) and Principal Assistant Registrars (PAR). The upcoming training sessions will target 120 Chief Accountants, Assistant Chief Accountants, Senior Assistant Registrars (SAR), Assistant Registrars, and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs). The training curriculum was structured to be highly practical, covering vital areas such as computer appreciation, desktop and file management, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and data management.

The primary aim of this extensive training effort was to enhance the proficiency of senior officers in ICT. The course equipped participants with essential skills for efficient data analysis, electronic file management, and modern information retrieval. The ultimate goal was to expedite service delivery, mitigate information leakages, and promote electronic file management. Participants in the training program enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to strengthen their ICT skills. Mr. Dominic Onuoha, one of the trainees, expressed gratitude for the Council's thoughtful initiative, emphasizing the positive impact it would have on the Polytechnic's development and staff welfare. Mr. Alexander Onyewuchi Anukam, the Head of the Department of Students' Record and Statistics, also commended the Council and the management for embracing digitization. He highlighted that the modern era has transitioned from analogue to digital, and the Polytechnic's commitment to digital transformation is in line with global trends.

Mallam Kale Kawu, Chairman of the Governing Council and the visionary behind this training initiative, highlighted the importance of ICT skills in the 21st century. He emphasized the need for senior officers to master information retrieval, records management, and data querying through databases. Kawu expressed his satisfaction with the level of compliance among the staff slated for the training, emphasizing that ICT skills are vital for personal and professional growth in the digital age. Kawu also acknowledged the vital role played by the Polytechnic's management, under the leadership of Rector Engr. Dr. Francisca Nwafulugo, in establishing and maintaining a high-class ICT center with skilled staff capable of conducting such training programs. Rector Engr. Dr. Nwafulugo shared her commitment to providing a conducive atmosphere for more professional training. She also revealed that her administration had facilitated numerous international and local training opportunities for staff through Tetfund sponsorship. Last year alone, over a hundred staff members benefited from training sessions aimed at enhancing their ICT knowledge and supporting education through technology.
