Students of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, have elected new executives to steer the affairs of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The election, held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at the institution’s 250-capacity lecture theatre, witnessed a massive turnout of students who voted in a peaceful and transparent process.

At the end of the polls, Raphael O. Akpan emerged as President-Elect of the SUG, while Eze Precious Adaeze was elected Vice President. Other members of the executive council include: Edidiong Okon Akpan (General Secretary), Edidiong S. Otumkpo (Assistant General Secretary), Akanimo M. Moses (Financial Secretary), Bright Victor Augustine (Treasurer), Favour Sunday Okon (Director of Information), Akaninyene U. Udo (Director of Welfare), Innocent Bassey Sunday (Director of Socials), and Eric John Esin (Director of Sports).

In the parliamentary arm, Nkanta Eke-Abasi was elected Speaker of the 3rd Assembly, with Blessing Cyril Effiong as Deputy Speaker. Aniefiok Ndarake and Happiness Peter were elected Chief Whip and Clerk of the House respectively.

In his acceptance speech, Comr. Raphael O. Akpan expressed gratitude to the students and management for their confidence in him and his team. He pledged maximum cooperation with the institution’s leadership while working to foster unity and progress among students.

Chairman of the Students’ Elections Committee, Comr. Jude Inyangetoh, commended the students for their orderly conduct and congratulated the newly elected officers. He formally dissolved the 2024/2025 SUG executives and parliament while charging the incoming leaders to uphold the union’s constitution in discharging their duties.

Rector of the Polytechnic, Amb. (Mrs.) Eduma Enobong Essien, lauded the electoral committee for the successful conduct of the polls and congratulated the new executives. She reminded them to prioritize their academic responsibilities. “You were screened based on your academic performance,” she said. “You must ensure your grades do not decline. Keep the flag of this institution flying high.”

Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr. Jeremiah Jeremiah Akpabio, also congratulated the students while urging them to place academics above politics. “Your certificate is paramount because that is what will give you a right standing tomorrow when you finally graduate,” he said.

In his closing remarks, the Director of Student Affairs, Mr. Prince Oloyede-Oyebanji Ademola, thanked the management for supporting the democratic process and commended students for their impressive turnout. He expressed confidence that the new executives will represent the true will of the students.
