Fulafia VC Abdul Rahman charges deans, heads of depts on KPIs to dev varsity

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has charged deans of faculties and heads of departments in the University to develop key performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring performance and quality of teaching in the University.

He said that no organisation would develop without adequate measures in place to gauge progress.

The vice-chancellor gave the charge when he chaired the Faculty Board meeting of the Faculty of Science of the University.

He described KPIs as important ways to ensure that faculties and departments support his blueprint and the overall goals of the University. 

Abdul Rahman said  the KPIs must be tied to the strategic goals of the University to enable Management to see the successes and failures of its policies and programmes and ensure that all the structures of the University move in the same direction.

He reminded the deans and heads of departments that the blueprint which he presented to the University on his assumption of duty spelt out what the vice-chancellor would do and what were expected from the faculties and departments, urging them to play their parts.

The vice-chancellor listed some of the roles of faculties and departments to include setting up an academic monitoring committee to monitor punctuality and quality of teaching, academic forum for innovation and development to encourage interaction between senior and junior academics, mentoring scheme, quality assurance and responding to the core values of the University, among others.

While congratulating staff who were recently promoted, Abdul Rahman assured them of Management's commitment to improving the welfare of staff.
