Nigerian Public University students have reacted to the news of Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun state graduating 110 first-class students at its recent convocation ceremony.

Myschoolnews reports the institution held its 20th undergraduate and 11th Post-graduate convocation ceremony on Sunday, July 31st, 2022 amidst the ASUU strike rocking public institutions across the country.

Here are some reactions monitored by Myschoolnews:

Taofeek Akorede said "Wow, congratulations to the graduands.I believe one day public Universities students like us will also graduate."

Ayok Kambai said "Nigerian lecturers will frustrate your life to a point that you would be thanking God for second class lower. May God help this country"

James williams pointed out "Are private University students just "dashed" first-class honors? Well, almost certainly not.

Now, granted, on average, it is a lot easier for one to graduate with a first-class honor from a Private University — the cause of this is where we all can differ.

1. The systems of a private University are less efficient than those of public universities — lower cases of missing scripts, lecturer's frustrations, arbitrary marking, and so on. Surely, there are exceptions.

2. The teaching methods and systems in private Universities are also a lot more optimal than that of public universities — the smaller teacher-to-student ratio, the use of modern equipment, and access to modern teaching facilities... Now, are there exceptions? Maybe.

I could go on and on. But then, it is important to note that irregularities and inefficiencies are significantly the cause of the reported low performance of Public University students... And, man, that shouldn't be romanticized — it ain't no bragging right. That said, I respect every public university student that makes it out excellently despite being stuck in a pitifully deficient system...You are heroes."

Franklin Okechukwu, a student of UNIJOS pointed out "To those happy Asuu extended strike, this ppl graduating from babcock entered in 2019, but see u still in 200/300 level"

It would be recalled ASUU has been on strike for over six months, effectively disrupting the academic pursuits of students in public varsities due to its disagreement with the FG; and if recent happenings are the go by, the situation looks bleak for the affected students.
