Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has reassured Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) students of enhanced campus security following a recent abduction incident.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has reassured students and management of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) Osara of improved security measures on campus. This pledge came during a meeting with 29 students who were rescued from abductors following a campus attack on May 9, 2024, where 31 students were kidnapped.

To restore confidence and demonstrate his administration’s commitment to student safety, Governor Ododo promised to complete the perimeter fencing of the university within 16 weeks and to implement comprehensive security surveillance capable of providing round-the-clock emergency responses.

Governor Ododo emphasized his collaboration with the university management to consistently review and enhance the school’s security architecture in line with the state’s safe school initiative. He asserted that his administration remains undeterred in its mission to make education accessible to the youth of Kogi State.

In addition to these security measures, Governor Ododo vowed to immortalize two students, James Anajuwe and Caleb Musa, who were tragically killed by their abductors. He also inspected the University Senate Building, new male and female hostel projects, and the University Demonstration Farms.

State Commissioner for Education, Honourable Wemi Jones, commended the Governor for the swift actions that led to the rescue of 29 students. He expressed sorrow over the loss of the two students and assured that measures are in place to prevent such incidents in the future.

CUSTECH Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulrahman Salawu, expressed gratitude to Governor Ododo for his continued support and fatherly role during and after the students’ captivity. He pledged the university management’s cooperation with the Governor’s administration to ensure the rapid development of the university.
