Hensard University to Commence Operations as Bayelsa's First Private University

Hensard University, a recently established private institution in Bayelsa State, is poised to initiate academic programs across various disciplines, having received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

This university, licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2023, is situated in Toru-Orua, Sagbama Local Government of Bayelsa State, making it the first private university in the state and the fourth in its 27-year history.

Senator Henry Seriake Dickson serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Hensard University. The institution was established through the Henry Seriake Dickson Foundation with the mission to promote entrepreneurship, leadership, and the application of skills and knowledge to nurture a new generation of leaders committed to societal improvement.

Hensard University will focus on academic excellence, character development, discipline, and a dedication to community service. It aims to bridge the gap between academic qualifications, leadership, skills development, and the practical application of knowledge for societal advancement.

During Senator Dickson's tenure as Governor of Bayelsa State, he prioritized education and oversaw the establishment of two universities: Bayelsa Medical University in Yenagoa and the University of Africa in Toru-Orua. His administration invested more than N200 billion in educational infrastructure alone, the highest expenditure in a single sector.

The university's vision centers on producing leaders, entrepreneurs, and champions of economic and social transformation. Hensard students will receive entrepreneurial education and be encouraged to become real entrepreneurs during their academic journey. They will have opportunities for practical involvement in businesses in their chosen fields, guided and mentored by the university.
