New students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education have been advised to form study groups to complement what they learn in the lecture rooms to improve their academic performance, instead of engaging in questionable activities.

New students of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE)  have been advised by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Onuchuku Okechuku to form study groups to complement what they learn in the lecture rooms to improve their academic performance, instead of engaging in questionable activities.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, gave the guidance at the 15th matriculation of the institution on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

 

Prof. Onuchuku, while encouraging the students to always aspire to be on top, reiterated that their main activity at the institution is to study and pass their examinations.

He reminded them that their parents are investing in them to have a better future so they should not waste the opportunity.

The Vice-Chancellor admonished them to obey the rules and regulations of the university by shunning cultism, examination malpractice and other social vices, as he emphasised that those caught in these acts would be punished accordingly.

He enjoined parents to regularly check the progress of performance of their children, insisting that students who do not meet the 1.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) benchmark in their first year and did not improve after a second opportunity in year two would be advised to withdraw for academic failure.

The Vice-Chancellor appealed to parents and guardians to pay their children and wards’ school fees and other charges on time to support the university improve its services.

 

Prof. Onuchuku further informed the matriculating students that the university has a vibrant sports unit and encouraged those interested in sports to leverage the opportunity it offers to showcase their skills.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the university management in creating the enabling environment for the students to be successful in their quest for quality higher education that would prepare them for the 21st Century knowledge-driven economy.

 

He congratulated the students on their success in the university selection process, as he acknowledged their parents and sponsors for the confidence in the university to train their children and wards.

7,338 students were admitted. Out of this, 7,203 came through the unified tertiary matriculation examination (UTME), while 85 were admitted through direct entry.
