Lagos State Plans Expansion of Technical Colleges and Vocational Centres to Tackle Out-of-School Children

In a bid to address the issue of out-of-school children and enhance technical and vocational education, the Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, announced plans to establish additional technical colleges and vocational centres across the state. The initiative aims to engage out-of-school children meaningfully, providing them access to quality training and reducing the number of children on the streets.

Addressing the issue of drug abuse among youths, Alli-Balogun emphasized collaborative efforts involving community leaders, police, security agents, and anti-drug clubs to combat the menace.
Additionally, the commissioner disclosed that Lagos State, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, would host the 67th National Council of Education (NCE) meeting from December 12 to December 15, 2023. The NEC meeting, themed "Addressing the Problems of Policy Implementations: Panacea for the Achievements of Education 2030 Agenda," will have Prof. Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, as Chairman. Delegates from various ministries, agencies, and government parastatals are expected to attend.
