Lagos State University Governing Council Inspects Ongoing Projects at Main Campus

The 12th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU) continued its annual campus tour on 13th February 2025, inspecting ongoing projects at the main campus in Ojo. Led by Sir David Sunmoni, FCA, KJW, and Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the inspection included visits to key developments such as the newly completed university main library (set to be the largest in West Africa), a 350-seat capacity CBT centre, and a Lagos State Government-sponsored Technology Hub.

The 12th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU) continued its annual campus tour on Thursday, 13th February 2025, with an inspection of ongoing projects at the university’s main campus in Ojo. This inspection was part of the Council’s oversight function to evaluate the progress of various developments aimed at enhancing the university’s academic and infrastructural environment.

The tour was led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council, Sir David Sunmoni, FCA, KJW, alongside the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Adenike Boyo. Council members, as well as members of the university management, were also present during the inspection.

The first stop was at the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, where Council members gathered before proceeding to the newly completed university main library, which is being hailed as the largest in West Africa. The group also inspected the newly established 350-seat capacity Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre, which is set to host examinations later this semester, further demonstrating the university's commitment to enhancing its examination infrastructure.

The inspection continued at the Lagos State Government-sponsored Technology Hub, located opposite the Zenith ICT Centre, where ongoing construction work is being closely monitored. The tour also included a review of new hostel facilities developed through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), which now accommodates over 1,800 students in a conducive environment designed to support academic success.

Next, the team visited the Federal Government-sponsored 2,000-capacity CBT Centre, situated next to the MBA Building. Though still in its early stages, the centre promises to significantly improve the university’s technological infrastructure upon completion. Additionally, the group inspected a 750-seat lecture hall near the LASU Staff School, a project facilitated by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, Her Excellency Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire.

The inspection tour concluded with a review of the proposed new car park near the Ojo gate, marking another initiative aimed at improving accessibility and convenience for students, staff, and visitors to the campus.

In his remarks, Sir David Sunmoni expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the development projects across the campus. He commended the ongoing work, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the momentum as LASU continues to strengthen its position as one of West Africa's premier educational institutions.

The 2025 campus tour began earlier in the week, on Monday, 10th February, with a visit to the Badagry Campus, home to the Lagos State University School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS).
