Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has set a new record by hosting one of the largest online international workshops on research methodology and artificial intelligence (AI) in academic writing. The workshop, held on Wednesday at the university’s President’s Conference Room, attracted over 23,000 participants from more than 100 countries worldwide.

The seminar aimed to enhance students, academics, and the general public's understanding of research fundamentals, with a focus on research ethics, AI integration, and scientific writing techniques. Scholars and professionals from diverse fields participated in discussions addressing the evolving role of AI in academic research.

Three esteemed adjunct faculty members at MAAUN led insightful presentations on critical topics related to research methodology and AI’s impact on academic writing.

Prof. Nada Ratkovic, from the University of Split, Croatia, delved into AI’s role in scientific writing, particularly highlighting its application in data science, chatbot development, and virtual assistants. She demonstrated how AI-driven innovations are reshaping pedagogy and enhancing research efficiency.

Dr. Muthmainnah S., from Universitas Asyariah Mandara in Sulawesi, Indonesia, discussed AI as a research writing assistant, showcasing various digital tools for proofreading, editing, and improving the quality of academic work. She, however, cautioned against the misuse of AI, emphasizing the importance of critical thinking to uphold originality, scholarly integrity, and rigor in research.

Prof. Rakhee Chaudhary from Career Point University in India highlighted the importance of ethics in research methodology. She underscored that honesty, integrity, and responsible resource utilization are key to maintaining high ethical standards in research endeavors.

In his opening remarks, MAAUN President, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming response to the workshop. He emphasized the critical role of research in driving innovation and the need for continuous refinement of research methodologies and writing skills among scholars.

Closing the event, MAAUN Vice President Administration, Dr. Habib Awais Abubakar, appreciated the speakers for their insightful presentations and commended participants for their active engagement. He reiterated the significance of AI in research while stressing the importance of maintaining ethical and academic integrity.

Dignitaries in attendance included the Executive Director of the African Institute for Solutions and Development, Dr. Salisu Mohammad; Head of Human Resources Unit, Hajiya Maimunat Bello; and Head of Career Guidance, Training, and Placement, Engr. Bashir Garba, among others.
