NOUNAA Highlights Achievements and Future Projects at Annual Congress
NOUNAA President Ambassador Ifeanyi Obukwelu provided an overview of the association’s accomplishments and challenges since taking office 10 months ago.
The National Open University of Nigeria Alumni Association (NOUNAA) has held its Annual National Congress, discussing progress, achievements, and challenges faced by the association.
The event, held at the NOUN’s Abuja Model Study Centre, Dutse-Alhaji, brought together a multitude of the university’s graduates, officials, and key stakeholders.
In his address, Principal Assistant Registrar Mr. Tiamiyu Oladimeji, representing the Director of the Directorate of Advancement and Linkages, expressed pride in the association’s efforts, commending its contributions to strengthening NOUN’s reputation in Open and Distance Learning education. “This is a testament to the association’s performance. I encourage you all to continue in the same spirit, as your contributions have set an example for the education sector,” he said.
NOUNAA President Ambassador Ifeanyi Obukwelu provided an overview of the association’s accomplishments and challenges since taking office 10 months ago. He acknowledged the previous leadership's foundational work and highlighted key achievements, including the creation of the NOUNAA Award Prize for the Best Graduating Student, fully sponsored by the association for five years and presented annually at the university’s convocation. This initiative aims to reward academic excellence and inspire future students.
Obukwelu also revealed several new projects to enhance alumni engagement, including securing a shop at NOUN headquarters to serve as a resource centre for alumni, offering information, branded materials, and publications such as the NOUN Alumni Bulletin. Additionally, he announced the commencement of construction on the NOUN Alumni Village, which will feature a 40-room guesthouse and a water factory, with all approvals secured.
The Financial Secretary, NOUNAA, Comrade Chiadika Onyiye, presented a detailed report of revenues and expenses for the past eight months, reinforcing the financial transparency of the association.
The Director of Abuja Model Study Centre, Prof. Nebath Tanglang, in a goodwill message, expressed joy at hosting the congress and reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to providing adequate infrastructure for a conducive learning environment.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Muntaka Abdul-Hadi, who appreciated the attendees and praised the leadership team for its contributions to the association's growth.
