Peter Obi to Deliver Keynote at American University of Nigeria’s 20th Convocation
Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, will deliver the keynote lecture at the American University of Nigeria’s (AUN) 16th Founder’s Day and 20th Convocation on November 30, 2024.
Renowned political leader and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, is set to deliver the keynote lecture at the 16th Founder’s Day and 20th Convocation Ceremony of the American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, will address the gathering as part of AUN’s celebration of two decades of academic excellence and community impact. His lecture underscores the institution’s dedication to fostering intellectual engagement on Africa’s socioeconomic challenges.
The event also celebrates AUN’s founder, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President of Nigeria, for his transformative contributions to education and societal development.
AUN President, Professor DeWayne Preston Frazier, expressed excitement over Obi’s participation, describing him as “an accomplished public servant and a champion of education.” He added that Obi’s presence would inspire the university community as it marks this significant milestone.
Since its inception in 2003, AUN has distinguished itself as a leader in American-style, development-focused education. Ranked among the top three universities in Nigeria in the 2024 Times Higher Education Global Impact Ranking, the institution continues to expand its academic programs and partnerships with international institutions.
Obi’s address at AUN follows his engagements with other globally renowned institutions earlier this year, including Harvard University, Yale University, and the Wharton School.
The Founder’s Day lecture series has previously featured prominent figures such as Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Professor Charles Soludo, and former Ugandan Vice President Dr. Gilbert Bukenya, further establishing AUN as a hub for intellectual discourse.
The convocation and Founder’s Day celebrations will highlight AUN’s ongoing commitment to providing transformative education while reflecting on its journey of two decades in shaping leaders for Africa and the world.
This historic event promises to further cement AUN’s reputation as a beacon of excellence in higher education.
