Sa'adu Zungur University (SAZU) in Bauchi State has responded to a recent publication claiming that at least 30 PhD holders have resigned due to poor salary conditions. The university management has categorically refuted these allegations, describing them as misleading and unfounded.

In a press release dated September 29, 2024, the university emphasized that it has not received any resignation letters from PhD staff citing salary issues. The institution clarified that only six PhD holders have left or are currently away from the university in the past one year and ten months for personal reasons unrelated to salary concerns. The breakdown of these departures is as follows:

- Dismissals: 6 staff members based on abscondment or disciplinary grounds.

- Sabbatical Leave: 2 staff members.

- Secondment: 2 staff members.

- Leave of Absence (LOA): 1 staff member.

SAZU currently employs a total of 397 academic staff, which includes 18 Professors, 9 Readers, 57 Senior Lecturers, 113 Lecturer I, 47 Lecturer II, 76 Assistant Lecturers, and 77 Graduate Assistants.

The university has consistently prioritized staff welfare and development, implementing initiatives to improve working conditions. These include timely salary payments and financial benefits. Since December 2022, several academic staff members have been promoted, with full payment of promotion arrears. Promotions include:

- 2022: 5 Professors, 2 Readers, 19 Senior Lecturers.

- 2024: 2 Professors, 5 Readers, 20 Senior Lecturers.

Regular training and retraining programs are also conducted in collaboration with reputable organizations to support staff development.

Furthermore, the state government is committed to enhancing the university's physical infrastructure, with ongoing efforts to construct access roads and staff quarters. Requests for perimeter fencing and additional hostel blocks are currently under positive consideration.
