Study business to serve as means of livelihood, FULafia students advise youngsters

Prospective students seeking admission into higher institutions of learning have been advised to study and or practice business as main or alternative means of livelihood.

The call was made during a sensitisation programme organised by students of the Department of Business Administration, Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), recently.

The sensitisation programme was organised to draw attention of students, entrepreneurs and business owners on the need to study business administration.

The event took place at Uyisa Model College, Gandu, and Government Junior Secondary Maraba, Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The targets of the sensitisation programme included students and other categories of youths.

Speaking  at the programme, Mr Emmanuel Onoja and Miss Kafayat Mahmud, who are students of the Department of Business Administration, emphasised on the need for citizens, in whatever profession they find themselves, to develop interest in business administration, saying that businesses play an integral role in shaping the world's economy and society.

"Whether you are a medical and or health practitioner, a banker, historian, sociologist or geologist there is the need to have some knowledge of business administration and be self reliant,” Mahmoud said. 

Onoja said that studying business administration would help to improve leadership and networking skills, understanding market trends and consumer behaviour, provides many job choices and opportunities and financial stability among younger people. 

 

Also speaking at the occasion were the principals of the participating schools, Mr Joshua Michael and Mr Muhammed Adamu Abdul, respectively, who, both, expressed their happiness with the sensitisation programme and commended the initiatives of the FULafia students for carrying out such an important exercise of educating students and business men to understand the importance of business administration.

According to them, the economic situation in the country warranted people to think of alternative sources of income.

Some of the youngsters interviewed expressed their gratitude to the students of FULafia for the enlightenment, hoping to use the knowledge they have acquired during the event. 

The programme was attended by the Head of Business Administration of FULafia, Dr Dauda Abdullahi.
