The Tertiary Education Trust Fund Advisory Committee on Accreditation of Skills Development Special Intervention has visited the Federal Polytechnic Offa Skills Development Centre for  assessment of the facilities for the accreditation of the Vocational Programmes.

Speaking on the premise of the exercise, the team leader from NBTE, Dr. Idris Musa in his remarks noted that the facility tour is part of the initiative of the Executive Secretary of NBTE, Professor Idris Bugaje to strengthen the Polytechnic mandate on skills acquisition and development.

He added that the Advisory Committee was constituted to carry out on the spot assessment of the facilities of the Polytechnic before the awarding body will be invited for the accreditation of skills development programmes.

Speaking further, Dr. Idris who led the team members on visitation to different artisans' workshops in Offa community stated that one of the aims of the skills development initiative is to formalize the informal sector in the society and certify their service to be recognized at both national and international levels.

According to him, "We have visited three informal sectors in the community which you signed the Memorandum of Understanding with; they are happy and ready to take the collaboration to the next level. The informal sector is the target participant and the school must consider the trade that will benefit them."

Enthralled by the facilities  provided by the Polytechnic after the inspection exercise, Dr. Idris commended the management led by Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru Oluwatoyin for a proactive approach to provide adequate facilities for the take-off of the skills development programmes. He charged the management to expedite efforts on the areas noted for improvement to achieve a seamless accreditation exercise of the trades.

While corroborating the team leader's remarks, a team member, Mrs. Sa'adatu Jimoh commended the management for putting the basic requirements to start the programme in order.

She therefore admonished the management to fast-track the process of accreditation of the available trades. She equally encouraged the management to commercialize the fabricated products of the Polytechnic to boost its Internally Generated Revenue.

Earlier, the Rector, Engr. Dr. Kadiri Kamoru expressed gratitude to Tertiary Education Trust Fund and National Board for Technical Education team for the exercise.

Th Rector lauded the NBTE under the leadership of Professor Idris Bugaje for giving the informal sector in the community a sense of belonging through grassroots engagement and training of the artisans on vocational skills with certification.  

Speaking on the efforts of the Skills Development Centre Committee set up by the management, the Rector noted that the committee has been working to actualize the vision of the Centre which is to tackle unemployment and boost productivity in society.

On the efforts of the centre to engage the informal sector in the community, the Rector stated that the Artisans in the community have been well informed on the importance of the Skills Development program and a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with members of Artisans for full collaboration. 

Also reacting to the remarks of the team leader, the Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Soko commended and appreciated the entire team for the positive remarks on the Polytechnic facilities. He assured the team of working on the areas noted for improvement as the Polytechnic is fully ready to embrace the skills development program.

Librarian, Mrs. Bassey, SSA to the Rector, Mrs. J.F Egbele, Deputy Registrar, Mrs Aiyeleso, Head Public Relations Unit, Mrs. Esther F. Oyinloye,  Coordinator Skills Development Center, Engr. Alabi, staff members of Skill Development Center,  among others.
