UNICROSS Debunks Misleading Facebook Post Against Vice Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Bassey

The Management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has dismissed as false and misleading a Facebook post accusing the Vice Chancellor, Professor Francisca Bassey, of deliberately delaying the signing of students’ certificates and neglecting student welfare for politics.

The post, published by a page operating under the name “CRUTECH (UNICROSS) STUDENTS/ASPIRANTS UPDATE 2025/2026,” was described by the University as a product of “faceless individuals with malicious intent,” not genuine students of UNICROSS.

In a statement issued by the University, management said the claims were baseless and inconsistent with the facts, noting that Prof. Bassey has shown exceptional commitment to student welfare and academic progress since assuming office.

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Comrade Igbeng Emmanuel Lazarus, had earlier described her as “our workaholic Vice Chancellor whose open-door policy and swift response have re-ignited hope and trust in student governance,” during an interactive session held on July 8th, 2025.

Clarifying the issue of Mop-Up examination results, the University explained that the delay predated Prof. Bassey’s tenure and was caused by lecturers’ grievances over unpaid allowances. The matter has since been resolved, payments made, and the results processed for upload.

In a move to enhance accountability, the Vice Chancellor created the Directorate of Examinations and Results — the first of its kind in UNICROSS history — to ensure timely conduct of exams and prompt release of results. Lecturers who delay result uploads now face sanctions, including salary withholding.

The institution confirmed that most results for the 2024/2025 academic session have been uploaded, and over five million results dating back more than a decade are being digitized.

Under Prof. Bassey’s leadership, UNICROSS also introduced Computer-Based Tests (CBT) for General Studies courses, allowing students to access results instantly after submission.

On the issue of certificates, management stated that thousands have already been signed and made available for collection, with the last batch signed just nine days ago. It emphasized that “there is no unsigned certificate on the Vice Chancellor’s table,” dismissing the contrary claims as illogical and malicious.

The University further warned the public and stakeholders to disregard the content of the Facebook page, which it said is not recognized by UNICROSS and does not represent the views of its students.

UNICROSS reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and student-centered leadership under Prof. Francisca Bassey’s administration.
