The University of Lagos (UNILAG) reaffirms its commitment to fostering solution-driven research and development across various domains. Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development Services), Professor Ayodele Atsenuwa, and her counterpart in charge of Academics and Research, Professor Bola Oboh, emphasized this during a meeting with faculty members from the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, U.S.A., and officials from the Institute of Human Virology (IHV), Nigeria.

The visiting delegation sought collaborations and partnerships in areas such as cancer, sickle cell disease, and non-communicable diseases. UNILAG, known for its excellence in research, has actively built global partnerships to address contemporary challenges across all spheres of humanity.

Professors Atsenuwa and Oboh highlighted the achievements of UNILAG’s Centers of Excellence and Innovation Hubs, which have made significant strides in finding solutions to national and global issues. They assured the University of Maryland School of Medicine of UNILAG’s readiness to take action once all arrangements are finalized.

In his remarks, Professor Mark Gladwin, Dean of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Vice President for Medical Affairs, praised UNILAG’s College of Medicine (CMUL) and Lagos State Teaching Hospital (LUTH) as valuable partners. He acknowledged their contributions to collaborative projects related to sickle cell disease,malaria and Tuberculosis Care. Notably, the University of Maryland has achieved significant control over the HIV/AIDS pandemic through research collaborations with reputable institutions worldwide.
