Achievers University, Owo, has taken a significant step in expanding its global footprint with the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Canadian Education Council. This strategic partnership aims to provide students and faculty with access to a wealth of international opportunities, further enhancing their academic and professional development in today’s interconnected world.

A Global Education Partnership The Canadian Education Council, a federally registered body in Canada similar to the British Council in Nigeria, promotes Canadian education worldwide. Dr. Adeniyi John, Co-Director of the Canadian Education Council, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, which will offer students and faculty access to global educational resources and career opportunities.

Key Areas of Collaboration The MoU outlines two main initiatives:

  1. Global Internship Program: Achievers University students and faculty will have the chance to participate in internships with leading organizations worldwide, either remotely or on-site. This program is designed to equip participants with practical experience and skills needed to thrive in the global job market.

International Career Center (ICC): Achievers University will establish an International Career Center on its campus, focusing on educational and professional development programs such as English as a Second Language (ESL) courses, study abroad opportunities, and competency tests for professionals in fields like medicine and technology. The ICC will also facilitate global mobility programs, allowing students to engage in educational exchanges with institutions abroad.

Bridging the Gap Between Education and Employment The Canadian Education Council will also utilize Achievers University’s 500-capacity Computer-Based Testing (CBT) center to conduct professional competency tests for healthcare and science professionals, helping to place candidates in suitable career paths. The global internship program offers competitive earnings, ranging from $5 to $35 per hour, based on participants' skills and the organizations they work with.

Supporting Career Development The ICC will mentor students and professionals in resume writing, interview preparation, and other essential skills to help them succeed in the global job market.
