Ahmadu Bello University Clarifies Use of 1988 Guidelines for 2025 Promotions Exercise

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) has announced that it will use the 1988 Guidelines for Appointments and Promotions for the 2025 promotion exercise. This decision was made to avoid delays in the promotion process and the resulting accumulation and loss of salary arrears.

The university's Governing Council had established two committees to review the 2024 Guidelines for Appointments and Promotions of Senior and Junior Staff, following appeals from the in-house unions. However, due to time constraints, the management sought and received approval from the Chairman of the Council to use the 1988 Guidelines for the 2025 promotion exercise.

The reports from the committees established to review the 2024 Guidelines are expected to be reviewed at the Council's next regular meeting in September 2025.
