In a landmark initiative, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) spearheads a seven-member delegation to Abuja for a comprehensive training session on drafting Gender and Sexual Harassment Policies for Nigerian universities. This fully funded program, organized by Alliances for Africa, a prominent non-governmental organization with observer status at the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights and consultative status with the United Nations ECOSOC, aims to equip university leaders with the necessary skills to combat sexual harassment effectively.

Led by Prof. Angela Nwammuo, the COOU team comprises distinguished academics and professionals, including Prof. Njideka Ebisi, Dr. Chisom Nneamaka Okafor, Mr. Henry Ikechukwu, Mrs. Sandra Aghaebe, Mrs. Chinwe Ebere Akpulue, and Mrs. Ilodigwe Anthonia Onyinye. Their participation underscores COOU's commitment to proactive measures against gender-based violence and discrimination.

The training, scheduled from June 9th to 15th, 2024, at Bolton White Hotels and Apartments in Abuja, targets Directors and Heads of Gender Studies Units, alongside research assistants and enumerators. Ms. Iheoma Obibi, Executive Director of Alliances for Africa, emphasizes the importance of empowering university stakeholders to develop and implement policies that foster safe and inclusive environments.
