FULokoja Management Honours Staff, Varsity Friends with Merit Awards

The Management of Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has honoured some members of staff and friends of the University with Merit Awards in recognition of their outstanding service, commitment, hard work, and contributions to the advancement of the Institution.

In a bid to ensure staff motivation, and promote excellence and productivity, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, introduced an internal reward system to encourage members of staff with a view to achieving his vision of all-round development for the University.

The awardees included Alhaji Othman Khalid, the Tafida of Koton Karfi, Mr. Obika  Okechukwu, MD/ CEO GODEC POWER Nig. Ltd,  Dr. Njideka-Nwarih Charlotte Ojukwu, Mr. Chris Yahaya, Mr. Empire Iweha, Mr. Offor Arome, and Mr. Mohammed Adamu Abdullahi.

The awards were presented on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor by special guests of honour and notable personalities during the Convocation Lecture entitled “The Role of University Education in a Society in Constant Transition” delivered by Professor Olu Obafemi, a distinguished Professor of Literary Art and Winner of 2018 Nigerian National Order of Merit Award, as part of activities to mark the 6th and 7th Convocation Ceremony held recently.

Announcing the names of the awardees during the epoch-making event, the Registrar, Dr Rebecca Aimiohu Okojie said: “We are giving these awards and recognition to some of our best staff, this group of staff lead without titles and whenever their roles are called upon, they perform like they are the leaders of those portfolios.”

She added that out of the seven (7) awardees, two (2) of them were friends of the University who have made outstanding contributions to its growth and development in recent times. It would be recalled that at the beginning of the year under review, during the 75th and first meeting of Senate for the year in February 2023, the University Management equally honoured some outstanding academic and non-teaching members of staff with Merit Awards for their contributions in the preceding year.
