He clarified this in his remarks at the inaugural meeting of the 12th governing council of the university at the council chamber, last week.
The Pro-Chancellor disclosed that prominent among its mandate is to ensure that the suspended staff recruitment at the institution is concluded without compromising excellence, merit and integrity.
The Chairman, while disclosing that expectations are high, admitted that there is enormous work to do, as he appealed to members to bring forward innovative ideas that would benefit the university.
He explained that their assignment is to translate the people-oriented vision of the state governor, His Excellency, Siminalayi Fubara, into policies and programmes that would advance the institution.
Chief Amiesimaka hinted that council activities would be premised on the university law and implored members to be up-to-date with it, asserting that deliberate actions would be taken to enhance academic excellence and improve the well-being of staff and students.
The Pro-Chancellor listed the extension of solar power supply to lecture rooms, purchase of more equipment to enhance teaching and learning, staff recruitment, boosting entrepreneurship education to make graduates employers of labour, building more hostels and lecture rooms and other infrastructure as some of the blueprints of the 12th governing council.

Other facilities in need, Prof. Onuchuku said, include a senate building, more ICT infrastructure, a convocation arena, sports complex, vice-chancellor's lodge, and steady electricity supply, among others.
