JAMB Takes Action Against Fake IJMB Results: Highlights Irregularities in Recent Admissions
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed significant issues concerning the authenticity of IJMB results, according to a policy document obtained by Punch in Abuja.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has revealed significant issues concerning the authenticity of IJMB results, according to a policy document obtained by Punch in Abuja. The document indicates that out of 21 candidates found to have presented fake IJMB results during the 2023 admission cycle, 12 were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. JAMB has emphasized that these recommendations were not approved due to the fraudulent nature of the results.
The board criticized ABU, Zaria, for its role in these recommendations, describing it as an "audacious attitude." This situation arose because certificate screening was conducted only after registration, which allowed the fraudulent results to be recommended.
JAMB has reiterated its requirement that all certificates must bear the signature of the institution's head, such as the Vice-Chancellor, Provost, or Rector. The board's statement follows the 2021 launch of the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform, designed to address issues of irregularities and result falsification in IJMB and JUPEB examinations.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Federal Ministry of Education have previously highlighted these issues, prompting JAMB to enforce stricter measures. In a recent bulletin, JAMB announced plans to implement additional measures to prevent the erosion of gains made in the education sector by combating fraudulent practices.
JAMB remains committed to upholding the integrity of the examination process and ensuring that educational standards are maintained across the board.
