LASU Governing Council Kicks Off Annual Campus Tour at Badagry Campus

On February 10, 2025, the 12th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU) began its annual campus tour, starting at the Badagry campus. Led by the Pro-Chancellor, Sir David O. A. Sunmoni, the visit focused on overseeing the university's progress and identifying areas for improvement.

On Monday, February 10, 2025, members of the 12th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU) commenced their yearly campus tour, beginning with a visit to the university's Badagry campus. The team, led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Sir David O. A. Sunmoni, FCA, KJW, toured the Lagos State University School of Basic and Advanced Studies (LASUSBAS) as part of their ongoing oversight of the institution's campuses and facilities.

In his address, Sir Sunmoni emphasized the Council's responsibility to manage the university's finances and assets, assess challenges, and identify areas for improvement. He expressed satisfaction with the progress seen on the Badagry campus since their last visit and reaffirmed the Council's commitment to ensuring LASU’s continued growth and success. Sir Sunmoni commended the efforts of LASUSBAS' director and staff, particularly in the management of the JUPEB program, and urged them to maintain their focus on enhancing the institution’s offerings.

Following the tour, Sir Sunmoni assured campus leadership of the Council's swift intervention in areas requiring enhancement. He expressed confidence that the university would continue to evolve and reach greater heights in the coming years.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Adenike Omotunde Boyo, thanked the Governing Council members for their visit. She echoed Sir Sunmoni’s remarks, highlighting the need for further improvements to campus facilities. "Having conducted this inspection, I am pleased to confirm that the Council will approve all relevant requests from the campus," she affirmed.

In his welcome address, Prof. Yunus Adeleke Dauda, the Director of LASUSBAS, expressed his appreciation for the Governing Council’s visit. He outlined several key developments under the current administration, including the construction of two new cafeterias, a Computer-Based Test Centre (CBT), the acquisition of a 150 KVA generator, and the installation of solar lights across the campus and hostel. Additionally, the campus saw the refurbishment of classrooms and laboratories, the purchase of a new ambulance, the installation of 40 CCTV cameras, and the procurement of a security patrol bus.

Prof. Dauda also highlighted significant academic achievements, such as the prompt payment of JUPEB examination fees, tutor training, and the timely payment of tutors' salaries. “These improvements have significantly contributed to the progress of the school and the success of the students in the JUPEB examination,” he added.

During the tour, the joint Council and Management teams inspected a range of facilities, including the Library, CCTV Control Rooms, science and arts classrooms, the CBT Centre, cafeterias, and the hostel.

The tour concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. (Mrs) Ronke Saibu, the Deputy Director of LASUSBAS, who extended gratitude to the Governing Council members for their continued support and guidance.
