LASU Hosts Career Training to Equip Students for Future Project Management Opportunities
On July 3, 2024, Lagos State University (LASU) hosted a one-day training program on project management at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theater.
Experienced project managers from various industries convened at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theater, LASU main campus, Ojo, on Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, for a one-day training program organized by the Association of Management Technology Students, Department of Management Technology, Faculty of Management Sciences, Lagos State University (LASU).

In collaboration with the LASU Career Development Centre, the event focused on "Next Generation Project Managers: Evolution of Project Management and Career Development," aiming to expand the career horizons of LASU students before 2030.
Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor of LASU, emphasized the crucial role of project management in entrepreneurship. Her address, delivered by Prof. Ibrahim Olawale Olateju, Dean of Post Graduate School, LASU, highlighted, "Project Management is the tripod on which successful entrepreneurship rests. Without substantial project management skills, you have no place in the next generation."
Prof. Rafiu Akanji Bankole, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, announced adjustments to the Nigerian Universities' syllabus to include project management as a compulsory course in management sciences faculties nationwide.

Prof. Stella T. Durowoju, Director of LASU Career Development Centre (LCDC), thanked participants for attending despite the heavy rain and introduced the esteemed speakers. The speakers, from various industries including banking, surveying, project management, and insurance, underscored the importance of project management skills in today's fast-paced business environment.
Speakers included:
- Mr. Jonathan Abati, Branch Manager, WEMA Bank Plc, LASU, who discussed Self-Assessment.
- Mr. Abiodun R. Koleoso, Surveyor at CORD Surveys Ltd, who spoke on Goal Setting.
- Miss Victory Oghenovo, founder of PM Tribe, who highlighted the significance of mentorship.
- Mr. Lesi Gboyega, General Manager at Leadway Assurance, represented by Mr. Paschal Ukaonu, who discussed the Implementation of Success Drives.

Topics covered included Emotional Management, Adaptability and Flexibility, Building Skills, and Being Intentional and Deliberate. The training provided students with opportunities to network with industry professionals and explore career opportunities in project management. Speakers encouraged students to pursue certifications like Project Management Professional (PMP), Microsoft Project, Coursera, and other relevant online courses to enhance their career prospects.
With over 200 students in attendance, the career-building program was a resounding success, equipping students with a comprehensive understanding of project management and its applications across industries. The event concluded with a Q&A session, presentation of awards, and group photographs.
Dr. Segun Oluwaseun Olabode, Head of the Department of Management Technology, Faculty of Management Sciences, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to participants, speakers, and industry professionals for their valuable contributions. He also acknowledged the organizing committee's efforts and the management's support in making the event a success.
