In a significant development for Lagos State University-Africa Centre of Excellence for Innovative and Transformative STEM Education (LASU-ACEITSE), a new laboratory has been inaugurated to train students in science, mathematics, and technology. The ceremony, held on Monday, saw the participation of key stakeholders, highlighting the commitment to promoting excellence in STEM education.

Dr. Joshua Atah, the National Coordinator of ACE Impact, Nigeria, praised the quality leadership and support from the university team, emphasizing the importance of sustaining the project by building capacity at both leadership and implementation levels. He stressed the need to prepare for future challenges as the project nears its conclusion in the next 13 months.

In her remarks, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor of LASU, emphasized the critical role of the centre in achieving internationalization objectives and making the university the best in West Africa. She reiterated the university management's commitment to the goals of the ACE-Impact Project, highlighting the continuous improvement in academic and administrative performance since the establishment of the centre in 2018.

Emeritus Prof. Peter Okebukola, Pioneer Director of LASU-ACEITSE, highlighted the significance of the laboratory in providing hands-on experiences for STEM students and praised the university management for bringing the vision to reality. He emphasized the importance of STEM education for all and called for increased awareness to encourage children to study STEM subjects.

Prof. Rasheed Sanni, Director of LASU-ACEITSE, called on governments at all levels to replicate STEM education laboratories across different local governments for the benefit of teachers and students. He encouraged students to utilize the laboratory to improve their training and academics.

LASU-ACEITSE, supported by the World Bank, aims to promote excellence in the teaching and learning of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
