LASUED Inaugurates Postgraduate Board: Vice-Chancellor Charges Members to Uphold Global Academic Standards

On Thursday, 5th February 2026, the Management of Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) took another giant step in its continued efforts to be a frontier of academic excellence by officially Inaugurates the Postgraduate Board of the university, marking a significant academic milestone in the institution’s development.

The inauguration that took place at the Multimedia Complex Room of the Vice-Chancellor's Office represents a strategic step toward strengthening postgraduate education and promoting academic excellence within the university.

In her address, the Vice-Chancellor, LASUED, Professor Bidemi Bilkis Lafiaji-Okuneye described the establishment of the Postgraduate School as more than a milestone in the history of the University, noting that it represents the bedrock of quality research output, advanced scholarship, and the enhancement of the University’s academic reputation. She emphasized that the Postgraduate College would play a strategic role in positioning the institution for global academic relevance.

Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor reminded the newly appointed Provost and Board members that their appointment was a call to service, which demands the highest level of integrity, commitment, and professionalism. She charged them to uphold academic standards and ensure effective governance in the discharge of their responsibilities.

In addition, Prof. Lafiaji-Okuneye encouraged the appointees to deploy all necessary efforts and expertise to successfully carry out their duties as members of the Postgraduate School Board, in line with the vision and mission of the university.

She thereafter formally presented the members of the Postgraduate School Board

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor M. A. Daodu described regulation as a collective responsibility and emphasized that the Postgraduate College is strictly an academic institution, not a political centre. He urged the Board members to remain objective, factual, and guided by academic principles in their deliberations. Professor Daodu also encouraged the Provost of the Postgraduate College, Professor Okedeyi Abiodun S., to operate an open system that allows Board members to freely contribute ideas aimed at advancing the College.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor M. A., Shittu congratulated the Provost and members of the Board while cautioning them to strictly adhere to regulatory guidelines and operate within the established framework of the university.

In the same vein, the University Bursar, Mr. Ajose Ganiu Adeniyi congratulated the Provost and Board members and urged them to commit their best efforts toward the growth and promotion of the Postgraduate College.

Similarly, the University Registrar, Mr. Akinfemiwa Opeoluwa congratulated the Provost and Board members and wished them a successful and impactful tenure.

In his address, the Provost of the Postgraduate College, Professor Okedeyi Abiodun S. expressed deep gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and University Management for the establishment and inauguration of the Postgraduate College Board. He described the inauguration as a major milestone that goes beyond constituting a governing body, noting that it lays the foundation for a strong, responsive, and globally competitive postgraduate system at LASUED.

The Provost highlighted the Board’s composition of seasoned scholars and administrators and expressed confidence in their capacity to provide sound policies, strategic direction, and effective oversight. He outlined the vision of the Postgraduate College as a centre for cutting-edge research, innovation, and advanced professional training, aimed at producing graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to national development and competing globally. He assured the University Management of his commitment to transparency, academic rigour, quality assurance, and timely completion of postgraduate programmes. He concluded by advising members of the Board to discharge their duties with wisdom, fairness, and excellence.

The Postgraduate Secretary, Mr. Folaranmi Bidemi recognized the presence of the Vice-Chancellor, University Management, the Provost, and Board members. He expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and Management on behalf of the Postgraduate College for their support and leadership.
