The Commandant of the 453 Base Service Group, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Kaduna, Air Commodore M. A. Garba, has pledged continued collaboration with the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to enhance educational opportunities for NAF personnel.
This commitment was made during a familiarization visit by the National Coordinator, Special Study Centres, NOUN, Modupe Adesina, accompanied by the Director of the NAF Base Study Centre, Dr. Madu Galadima. The visit, held at the NAF Base Kaduna, aimed to strengthen ties and address critical needs at the study centre.
During the meeting, Adesina emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration and highlighted areas requiring urgent attention to maximize the benefits of the Special Study Centre. She presented a checklist indicating that only 40% of the centre’s operational needs had been met, calling on the formation to address the shortfall.
"The Amendment Act establishing the Special Study Centre outlines the requirements stakeholders must meet to fully harness its potential. We look forward to the formation’s increased support to address these gaps," Adesina stated.
In response, Air Commodore Garba welcomed the team and commended NOUN’s impact on education within the formation and across Nigeria. He recommended that requests for intervention be formally directed to the NAF headquarters, complete with the identified needs checklist, to ensure efficient resolution.
Dr. Galadima conveyed the Vice-Chancellor’s goodwill message to the commandant and underscored the importance of the visit in fostering effective collaboration. He also thanked the formation for its continued support, particularly in the area of security, and outlined the centre’s pressing needs.
The visit included a tour of facilities and an inspection of the ongoing 2024_2 Pen-on-Paper examination. Adesina's earlier interaction with Dr. Galadima provided an opportunity to review the centre's challenges and align strategies for improvement.
The meeting underscores NOUN’s commitment to delivering quality education to NAF personnel, with both parties reaffirming their dedication to achieving this goal.
