NAUB Students Appeal to University Management for Economic Relief Amid Rising Costs

As the economic challenges gripping the nation continue to affect individuals across all sectors, the students of Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB) have come forward with a public appeal to the university's management monitored by myschoolnews.

NAUB Students Appeal to University Management for Economic Relief Amid Rising Costs

The widespread economic strain has touched every aspect of life, impacting every stakeholder within the institution. Rising commodity prices in the market and increased transport fares, especially for students and staff residing in areas beyond the reach of university bus services, have compounded the difficulties faced by the NAUB community.

The university's management has discouraged students from engaging in businesses outside of their academic pursuits. However, the students urge understanding, emphasizing that their parents' or sponsors' financial resources alone cannot sustain their pursuit of quality education at NAUB.

Representing the student body, a spokesperson issued an appeal to the NAUB management, requesting that they consider engaging their students in various capacities.

The students believe that providing opportunities for student employment would serve multiple purposes. It would not only allow students to supplement the support they receive from their parents or sponsors but also instill a sense of pride in labor among NAUB students, setting them apart from their peers in other institutions.

NAUB students possess a wealth of talents and skills. Many are proficient in electrical services, painting, plumbing, and other trades. The students argue that the university could benefit from harnessing these skills by offering students opportunities for employment.

The appeal also highlights instances where students have approached site engineers working on campus projects for minor jobs but have been met with reluctance. While site engineers have the right to choose their labor force, the students emphasize their need for these jobs to make ends meet.

The students hope that the university's management will consider their plea and explore initiatives similar to what Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, implemented after the COVID-19 pandemic by engaging students in minor paid jobs.

This heartfelt appeal from NAUB students reflects their determination to overcome economic hardships and continue their pursuit of knowledge.
