Petroleum Institute Welcomes 1,793 New Students in Matriculation Ceremony

The Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) in Effurun, Delta State, held its matriculation ceremony for the 2023/2024 academic session on Friday, welcoming 1,793 new students into its fold. Dr. Samuel Onoji, the acting Principal/Chief Executive of the institute, administered the matriculation oath to the students, emphasizing the importance of academic integrity and dedication to their studies.

Addressing the newly matriculated students, Mr. Onoji urged them to steer clear of social vices within the campus premises, emphasizing that such behaviors are not condoned by the institute's management. He highlighted various prohibited activities outlined in the Institute's Handbook, including examination malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, and misuse of social media.

In a special address, Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, assured the matriculants of Nigeria's continued reliance on their services, given the country's status as the largest producer of Oil and Gas in Africa. Represented by his special adviser, Pereotubo Oweilami, the minister underscored the vital role of competent technicians and technologists in sustaining Nigeria's oil and gas production levels.

Acknowledging the importance of the oil and gas sector to the nation's economy, Mr. Lokpobiri pledged continued support from the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to PTI, including collaboration and provision of facilities to train middle-level manpower. The matriculation ceremony served as a symbolic induction into the PTI community, marking the beginning of an enriching academic journey for the newly enrolled students.
