Put your best foot forward in the discharge of your duties, UNICAL VC charges classroom administrators
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi has charged Classroom administrators to be of good behaviour by putting their best foot forward in the discharge of their duties, Myschoolnews gathered.
Prof. Florence Obi who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Angela Oyo-Ita gave the charge at the University Senate Chamber during a 3-day Workshop organized by the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE).
The University helmsman said the essence of the workshop was to re-engineer the mindsets of staff to ensure that they have the right attitude to work.
Hear her, ''You are the eye of administration and what is expected of you is much, therefore you should always be on your duty post to take note of lectures held in a day and make sure it starts at the right time.
There is a need for you to contribute immensely to the growth and advancement of our University because of the impact you have in the actualization of the academic goals of Students''
Earlier in his remarks, the Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning Excellence, Prof. Usang Bassey Usang reminded the administrators of the need to perform their duties with a deep sense of diligence and commitment and urged them to take the workshop seriously to correct the negative notion that people have towards them.
While describing them as critical stakeholders in the realization of the lofty goals of the current administration, he urged them to be good ambassadors of the University by shunning negative vices.
One of the resource persons, Prof. Uche Ajake noted that classroom administrators play complementary roles with lecturers to ensure effective teaching and learning, just as he tasked administrators with proper space and time management.
In a presentation, the Director, of SERVICOM, Unical, Prof. Patrick Egaga who spoke on neatness, punctuality and the need to avoid absenteeism, admonished the administrators to dress modestly and decently charging them to try as much they can to make sure they are punctual to work so as not be found wanting.
Prof. Egaga said Classroom Administrators ought to be versatile in the exercise of their duties because they are seen as scientists, organizers, reporters, coordinators, planners and distributors, all wrapped in one.
Similarly, the Public Relations Officer of the Institution, Mr Effiong Eyo stressed the need for public address systems to be made available in every lecture hall because according to him, it helps draw the attention of students to the lectures and also increases the volume of human voice especially when dealing with a larger audience.
