Students Avoid Hostels Due to Bandit, Kidnapper Fear - FULOKOJA VC
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi of Federal University Lokoja reports that students are reluctant to use hostels due to security concerns.
The Vice-Chancellor of Federal University, Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, has highlighted that students are shunning hostel accommodations due to fears over banditry and kidnapping incidents in the region.
During a recent oversight visit by the House Committee on University Education, Chairman Abubakar Fulata disclosed that Prof. Akinwumi expressed grave concerns over the security situation, revealing that the university's two hostels, capable of housing 500 students, currently stand vacant.

Citing the tragic kidnapping and subsequent deaths of Kogi State University students earlier in the year, Prof. Akinwumi underscored the university's vulnerability, exacerbated by the lack of perimeter fencing. This insecurity has deterred the university management from allocating hostel spaces to students.

In addition to security challenges, Prof. Akinwumi outlined infrastructural deficiencies and staffing issues as major impediments to the university's operations. He welcomed the lawmakers' visit as an opportunity to seek assistance in addressing these pressing issues.
