UNILAG Clarifies Fee Structure, Denies Fee Hike

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has denied raising the fees payable by its undergraduate students, attributing changes in the fee structure to the consolidation of approved dues previously paid at faculty and departmental levels.

The university's management explained that the changes were made in line with the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund) directive to consolidate all charges payable by students on the student portal. This aims to ensure that students' payments are tracked and managed efficiently.

While some charges were adjusted upwards, others were introduced to cover specific services. These include:

- Entrepreneurship (N5,000)

- Portal maintenance (N15,000)

- Student insurance policy (N1,250)

The university's management maintained that the changes were not a fee hike, but rather a consolidation of existing charges to benefit students. The Head of the Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, stated that the changes would facilitate efficient payment tracking and ensure students receive funding that covers all bills through a central system .
