UNILORIN and UI Triumph in Climate Risk Research Challenge
The University of Ibadan (UI) and the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) have emerged as winners in the Climate Risk Research Challenge—Nigeria 2023 Prize Event, which focused on innovations in climate risk research and resilience within the agriculture sector.
The University of Ibadan (UI) and the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) have emerged victorious in the Climate Risk Research Challenge—Nigeria 2023 Prize Event, showcasing their outstanding contributions to climate risk research and resilience in agriculture.
Hosted at UI, the event recognized UI's DEWSClim Innovators led by Peace Aburime, who clinched the first prize of $5,000. UNILORIN's Team A, spearheaded by Jimoh-Faari Abdulkabir, secured second place with a prize of $3,500, while UI's APEX Team, under Olajire Aduragbemi, claimed third place with $1,500.
Representatives and sponsors at the event, including Abubakar Shuaibu from Green Energy Mission Africa and Azeez Abubakar of Sustainable Solutions for Green Growth, lauded the students' innovative solutions and underscored their significance in addressing climate risks crucial for Nigeria's future.
In his remarks, UI's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oyebode Adebowale, commended the students for their ingenuity and highlighted the event's role in promoting collaborative efforts to tackle climate challenges affecting food security in Nigeria.

The event also marked the launch of ResilientScape Africa by Green Energy Mission Africa and Sustainable Solutions for Green Growth, aiming to bolster environmental sustainability and climate resilience across African communities.
