The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode Oyebode Adebowale, has urged Nigerian students, particularly those in federal universities, to apply for the NELFUND Loan. He made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the new executive committee of the Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union to his office.
Professor Adebowale noted that many students in the South West are not fully utilizing the Federal Government’s initiative, which aims to assist with school fees and provide a monthly stipend. He emphasized that the NELFUND Loan would alleviate financial burdens on parents and guardians, allowing students to concentrate on their studies.
He also clarified that the loan repayment is structured to begin two years after completing the NYSC scheme, by which time beneficiaries are expected to be gainfully employed.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed his pleasure in welcoming the new executive committee members and appreciated their recognition of his status as the first Ibadan indigene to hold the position since the university’s establishment. He highlighted Ibadan’s reputation as a peaceful and accommodating city.
Professor Adebowale assured the committee of his support for their various programs. The president of the Federation of Ibadan Students’ Union, Mr. Shuaib Abdullahi, introduced the new executive members and outlined their planned activities, including the “Ibadan Legend Week: Ose Ibadan.”
Other members present at the visit included Miss Fathia Afolabi, General Secretary; Miss Blessing Akintunde, Assistant General Secretary; Miss Robiat Abduliahi, Social & Welfare Director; and Mr. Qudus Falade, Public Relations Officer.
