The management of Abia State University (ABSU) has announced that regular students who wish to transfer to a different degree programme may now apply for an inter-departmental change of course for the 2025/2026 academic session.

This initiative provides eligible students the opportunity to pursue a new field of study, subject to meeting the University’s specific requirements.

Eligibility and Guidelines

According to the official memorandum signed by the Deputy Registrar (Admissions), Madumere-Enwere Beatrice, applicants must adhere to the following:

  1. Duration of Residency: Students must have completed at least one full academic session at ABSU.
  2. Academic Standing: A minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.00 is required.
  3. Documentation: Submission of a transcript covering both first and second semesters is mandatory; it must be officially certified by the Registrar.
  4. Entry Requirements: Students must satisfy the minimum entry requirements for the new degree programme they wish to join.
  5. Application Route: Applications should be addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, routed through the student’s current Dean and Head of Department.

Restrictions and Fees

  • Course Exclusions: Transfers into Medicine and Surgery, Law, and Pharmacy are not permitted due to lack of vacancies.
  • Application Fees: All applicants are required to pay the prescribed fees as determined by University Management.

Final Approval

  • Applicants are advised that the change of course process is only completed upon the collection of the official letter of approval, duly endorsed by the Registrar.
