Prof. Obi stated this when she received several Accreditation teams from the Nigeria Universities Commission( NUC) at the Council chamber of the institution.

Prof Obi who underscored the importance of accreditation in educational advancement regretted that accreditation of programmes in various faculties in the institution would have long been concluded but was hindered by the strike action embarked upon by varsity unions last year.
The University Administrator emphasized that the visit was a 'peer review exercise' aimed at determining the strengths and weaknesses of the institution, adding that, " the exercise aim is also to improve on the product and services of our University".

She said the desire and expectations of students were to see their programmes being recognized, saying this would boost their confidence and performance in their academic pursuits.
Speaking on behalf of the various accreditation teams, Prof Arotupin Daniel commended the University Management for the warm reception and hospitality upon their arrival.
Prof Arotupin described the leadership of the Institution as an embodiment of 'fairness' while applauding the Vice Chancellor for her giant strides as witnessed in all strata of the Institution.
The team leader stated that the exercise was to assess both the University infrastructure and staff strength, as well as, identify other areas of need.

The academic programmes so far involved in the ongoing accreditation exercise include Science Lab Technology, Micro Biology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Fine and Applied Arts, Statistics, Survey and Geo Informatics as well as Environmental Protection and Resource Management.
