Governor Calls for Emphasis on Practical, Knowledge-Based Tertiary Education Curriculum
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has underscored the necessity for Nigerian higher education institutions to revamp their academic programs, emphasizing the importance of offering courses that equip students not only with theoretical knowledge but also practical skills vital for addressing contemporary global challenges.
In a recent meeting with the governing council and management team of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti (BOUESTI), led by Prof. Patrick Aina, Governor Oyebanji called on universities to reevaluate their curricula and place a strong focus on courses relevant to the demands of the 21st century.
Governor Oyebanji stressed the significance of this curriculum shift, as it would empower students to become problem solvers and potential job creators, aligning them with the changing global landscape and the evolving job market.

He urged universities to adapt their educational offerings to meet the requirements of the modern workforce, expanding their programs to encompass subjects pertinent to the 21st century. By doing so, he argued, these institutions could play a pivotal role in contributing to the nation's economic growth by producing graduates capable of driving innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation.
While acknowledging the academic excellence and peaceful atmosphere at BOUESTI, the governor encouraged the university's governing council and management to actively engage in and leverage public-private partnerships to promote comprehensive development, access expertise, secure resources, and foster innovation within the university.
