Former House of Representatives Member, Professor Haruna Yerima, has called on vice-chancellors, rectors of polytechnics, and provosts of colleges of education to resist intimidation and harassment by certain members of the House of Representatives regarding the N683 billion 2024 TETFund allocation.

This statement comes in response to reports of alleged extortion by the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and Other Services.

Reports show that administrators of tertiary institutions have expressed concern about what they perceive as an "unwholesome overbearing influence" in internal matters of the institutions regarding the implementation of the N683 billion allocated to the institutions under the TETFund scheme in 2024 by President Bola Tinubu.

He likened the situation to past incidents where lawmakers allegedly demanded money to pass budgets of ministries and agencies or screen presidential appointees.

The call to resist such interference highlights the importance of upholding institutional autonomy and integrity in the utilization of public funds allocated for educational development.
