FULafia sets to become foremost university, says VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia), Prof. Shehu Abdul Rahman, has said that the University is on course to become a foremost institution of learning.

He said that the University was focused on preparing students for life after school, adding that the intention “is to make students become entrepreneurs.”

The vice-chancellor spoke during the 12th matriculation ceremony of the University held at the Permanent Site Campus of the University.

He said that the University, established 13 years ago with 14 departments across three faculties, currently has a College of Medicine,  53 functional departments across 12 faculties, 14 resource centres, and an academic directorate for research, training and consulting.

While congratulating the new students for being found suitable for admission into degree programmes in University, the vice-chancellor admonished them to abide by the rules and regulations of the institution. 

He urged them to be fully committed to their studies to justify their selection out of the thousands who had wanted to study at the University.

Prof. Abdul Rahman advised students to dress according to acceptable standards, saying that undue exposure of body parts that have the potential to infuriate the sensibility of others would be severely sanctioned.

He said: "In this University, we have zero tolerance for any form of misconduct and we do not hesitate to sanction unpleasant behaviours.”

He said that the University had zero tolerance for anti-social groups operating on campus, emphasising that the membership of cult groups was prohibited and offenders would be summarily expelled.

Abdul Rahman called on parents and guardians of students to partner with the University Management in the task of actualising the objectives of the University.
